On Saturday December 7th, Hargrave hosted the annual Cody Day Invitational wrestling tournament in Walter Davis Gymnasium. After a thrilling day of competition, the Tigers placed 6th.

Saturday’s meet marked the opening of the 2019-2020 season for Hargrave, as well as the first meet under newly minted head coach, Matt Vinson. The Tigers welcomed eight teams from around the area to compete in the Cody Day Invitational: Blue Ridge School (St. George, VA), Chatham High School (Chatham, VA), George Washington High School (Danville, VA), Grace Christian School (Staunton, VA), JF Webb High School (Oxford, NC), Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA), Randolph-Henry High School (Charlotte Court House,VA), and Virginia Episcopal School (Lynchburg, VA).

The competition was fierce and the Tigers didn’t back down from anyone. The final team results of the Cody Day Invitational are below:

1st–Randolph-Henry High School (90)
2nd–Virginia Episcopal School (78)
3rd–Grace Christian School (60)
4th–George Washington High School (57)
5th–JF Webb High School (48)
6th–Hargrave Military Academy (45)
7th–Chatham High School (42)
8th–Blue Ridge School (24)
9th–Oak Hill Academy (6)

The Tigers also received some strong individual performances, as four members of the Wrestling team earned medals in their weight class. Hargrave was led by Samuel Lee ’22, who placed first overall in his weight class. Dmitri Clinton ’20 finished second in his weight class and both Mason Rucker ’22 and Alex Rosario ’22 placed third in their respective weight classes. 

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, December 14th, as they head to Dry Fork, VA to compete in the Jordan Amos Duals Tournament.
