Eleven Hargrave Military Academy Students Qualify for National Forensics Tournament

Hargrave Military Academy’s Forensics Team closed out their season with amazing results. The team took 2nd place in the Southwestern Virginia National Forensic League, 2nd place for mid-sized schools at the National Forensic League State Tournament at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, and finished the season taking 2nd overall in the Catholic Forensic League. This qualifies the following students to compete in Nationals over Memorial Day Weekend in Albany, New York.

Senior Michael Schantz of High Point, North Carolina and junior Aaron Strom of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, took 1st in the state for Duo Interpretation. Schantz is the son of Tim Schantz and Diane Bradshaw. Strom is the son of Callie Warner and William Strom.

Senior Clarence Bell, III of Pikesville, Maryland and senior Lawrence Allan Thomas IV of Concord, North Carolina took 3rd in the state also for Duo Interpretation. Bell is the son of Clarence Bell II and Sharron Bell. Thomas is the son of Lawrence Allan Thomas, III and Sherry Thomas.

Senior Mark Herbert of Warsaw, Virginia took 3rd in the state for Dramatic Interpretation. Herbert is the son of Bill and Kathy Herbert.

Junior James Peaco of Portland, Maine took 3rd in the state for Extemporaneous Speaking. Peaco is the son of Daniel and Lindley Peaco.

Sophomore Benjamin Kauffman of Bay Shore, New York took 2nd in the state for Extemporaneous Speaking. Kaufmann is the son of Eric and Ingrid Kaufmann.

Freshman Joshua Morin of Wyandotte, Michigan took 4th in the state for Declamation. Morin is the son of Regan and Cindy Morin.

Three additional students also qualified as alternates for the national tournament.

Freshman Michael Harding of Chatham, Virginia placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. Harding is the son of Gregory and Holly Harding.

Junior Thomas Denson, IV of Richmond, Virginia placed 5th for Oral Interpretation. Denson is the son of Thomas Denson III and Joan Clark.

Junior Chris Duckers of McLean, Virginia placed 5th in Original Oratory. Duckers is the son of Edward C. Duckers and Katherine Z. Haskell.
