Fall 2009 PG Football vs. Marshall University

Hargrave 13 – Marshall 0

The Hargrave PG Football team traveled up to Huntington, WV to play the Marshall University Junior Varsity team and came away with a 13-0 victory.

Offensively, the Tigers started off on the right foot by connecting on an 80 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dolapo Macarthy to wide receiver Sean Farr on the very first play of the game. In the second quarter, it was much of the same for the Tigers as Macarthy connected with wide receiver Deon Long on a 68 yard touchdown strike, giving the Tigers a 13-0 lead, which would end up being the final score.

Farr finished with 3 catches for 124 yards and one touchdown, while Long finished with 4 catches for 122 yards and a score. Macarthy finished the game completing 9 of 13 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns. Rob Fronk also made a nice catch over the middle on a third down and long play.

The Tiger running backs made several nice runs including a 24 yarder by Alex Owah, and a 17 yard run by Tahron Goods. Along the offensive line, Tom Pizzurro,Winston Hill, Laurence Gibson, and Johnnie Farms all stood out, making nice blocks in the running game, and providing solid pass protection in the passing game.

Defensively, the Tigers played a great game harassing the Marshall offense all day. Ego Ferguson Jr was a terror off the edge and finished with two sacks and 3 tackles for loss. Mike Thomas also played well consistently pressuring the Marshall quarterbacks. Defensive tackle Justin Kee led a stout rush defense that didn’t allow Marshall to gain any momentum.

Linebacker Brandon Hazzard played a great game finishing with a team high 7 tackles, including 2 for loss. Linebacker Jimmy O’Grady was solid as well finishing with 5 tackles and 1 pass break-up.

In the secondary, Ross Madison intercepted one pass and batted down two more from his safety position. He also blocked a punt early in the third quarter. Cornerbacks Dylan Farrington and Ishmael Banks were solid, with Farrington intercepting one pass, and forcing a fumble on a kickoff. Banks provided solid pass defense all day and slowed the Marshall passing game.

All in all, it was another solid effort for the now 7-1 Tigers, as they prepare for their season finale on the road against Fork Union Military Acdemy. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.
