Fourth Quarter Surge Propels Tigers to Victory

Benjamin J Veshi

Sandwiched in the middle of a holiday hoops triple-header, the Hargrave Tigers defeated Westover Christian Academy 61-50 to earn their first victory of the season.

With a less than ideal schedule to this point in the year, the Tigers took their court at Walter Davis Gymnasium for the first time this season, and only their second game of the season. Hargrave came out with a sluggish start and found themselves down early as Westover played with more energy in the opening few minutes. However, Hargrave weathered the storm for most of the first half but still found themselves trailing 23-21 at halftime.

Both teams must have had phenomenal halftime speeches because it was a completely different game in the third quarter as both teams scored 21 points in an offensive bout that had the fans on the edge of their seats. David Hubbard ’22 nailed four of his five threes in the third quarter, doing everything he could to push the Tigers over Westover.

A Grayson Emerson ’22 offensive put back tied the game at 44 on the fourth quarter’s opening possession and that’s the push the Tigers needed as they closed the game on a 19-6 run securing the 61-50 victory over Westover.

Notable Performances Included:
David Hubbard ’22–22 points
TJ Miller ’23–13 points
Grayson Emerson ’22–11 points
Luc Garcia ’22–9 points

Hargrave is back in action on Thursday, January 9th as they take on Roanoke Catholic in Roanoke, Virginia. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
