Hargrave hosted the 6th annual Hargrave-Chatham Hall Fight Against Cancer Challenge on Monday, this year squaring up against #12 nationally ranked Mt. Zion out of Baltimore, Maryland. Playing before a sold-out crowd all donning pink shirts, the Tigers scored the game’s first 17 points and never looked back, cruising past the Warriors by a score of 138-85.
Even though he didn’t quite match his school-record 70 point outburst from last year’s Fight Against Cancer Challenge, Braxton Beverly once again took home MVP honors with a 31 point, 6 assist outing in the win. The Tigers had 8 players score 8 or more points in the balanced attack, with Iran Bennett (17), Brandon Knapper (15), Naji Marshall (12) and Antwan Walker (12) joining Beverly in double-digits. Naji Marshall also recorded a double-double by hauling in 10 rebounds on the night.
The win pushes Hargrave’s record to 31-1, and extends their home winning streak to 70 games. The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday at home as they take on New River Community College. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 in historic Walter Davis Gymnasium.
