Hargrave-Chatham Hall 5th Annual Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge

Hargrave Military Academy hosts ‘The Hargrave-Chatham Hall Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge’ on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The challenge features great basketball, great halftime entertainment and a great cause. Genius Academy, the visiting team, joins Hargrave’s own Postgraduate Basketball team, currently ranked #1 in the country, in the Academy’s Walter Davis Gymnasium in a fundraising game for cancer research. The ‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’ proceeds the game.

“Please support the Pepsi Challenge at Hargrave Military Academy,” said Dick Vitale, Hall of Fame basketball announcer. “They are helping in the battle against cancer, a disease that affects all whether one is rich or poor, black or white that disease can bring you to your knees. We must all unite to beat that disease.”

The Hargrave-Chatham Hall Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge is a cancer awareness fundraiser with proceeds going to the Jimmy V Foundation. Team members include: Blair Construction; Chatham Hall; Danville Regional Medical Center; Hargrave Military Academy; Michael Jordan; Pepsi; and Dick Vitale.

“We’re extremely excited to be joining with Chatham Hall this year in the Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge,” said Coach A.W. Hamilton, Hargrave’s Basketball Program Director/Head Coach.”This challenge, in it’s 5th year, has grown into a nationally recognized event that not only has energized our Corps of Cadets, faculty and staff, but also our community of Chatham. Please come out and support the ongoing fight with cancer.”

The event highlights include a fundraising raffle featuring: an authentic Michael Jordan autographed basketball; a Dick Vitale autographed basketball; an Ashley Judd autographed basketball; an extended half-time performance by rising country music artist Billy Sally; and a ‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’ starting in downtown Chatham with a Pep Rally at 4:00 p.m.

“Our faculty, staff, trustees and Corps of Cadet Cadets are honored to invite everyone to this year’s historic Hargrave-Chatham Hall Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge,” said President Don Broome (BG, USA Ret.), Hargrave Military Academy. “Please join us in the first annual ‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’ as we raise awareness for the ongoing fight against cancer.”

The ‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’ begins at 5:45 p.m. with prayer and guest speakers. The Walk begins in the First Piedmont parking lot and heads north on Main Street, turning left on Hargrave Boulevard to Hargrave. The Walk ends at the Davis Gymnasium.

The event will be an official ‘Pink Out’ with pink shirts available with your general admission tickets. (Shirt are limited to the first 300 participants). Game admission is $8.

“Chatham Hall is excited to partner with Hargrave and our corporate friends to make a difference in the fight against cancer,” said Rector Suzanne Buck, Chatham Hall. “We are honored to come together with our friends and neighbors. Please join us in an evening of spirit and support of an important cause.”

Hargrave’s Postgraduate Basketball team features some of the best rising student-athlete talent in the country. Team members include eight NCAA Division I signees: Braxton Beverly (#10, Miami University – Ohio); Austin Burnette (#32, Campbell University); Tim Cameron (#3, University of Texas at El Paso); Makale Foreman (#1, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga); Derek Funderburk (#24, Ohio State); DeRiante Jenkins (#5, Virginia Commonwealth University); Seth Losure (#34, U.S. Military Academy at West Point); and Evan Wieck (#40, U.S. Naval Academy).

‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’
5:45 p.m. – Assembly for the ‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’ event. Hargrave Chaplain Joe Moran opens with prayer. Speakers include: President Broome; Rector Buck.
5:00 p.m. – The ‘Chatham Walk for a Cure’ begins with the Town of Chatham maintaining safety and traffic control.
