In the latest edition of the National Prep Coaches Poll, the Hargrave Tigers Post-Graduate Basketball team earned the #1 national ranking.
On the heels of an impressive tournament victory this past weekend in the Fork Union Military Academy Invitational, the Tigers were rewarded for their efforts by the voters when Tuesday’s National Prep Coaches Poll was announced. Hargrave, currently 15-0, boasts wins over #9 Woodstock Academy (89-72) and New Hampton (104-85), who is receiving votes.
When asked about what receiving the #1 national ranking means for his team, head coach Lee Martin said, “It’s a great feeling honestly. I’m extremely proud of our group to this point and it’s nice to be recognized for our efforts so far this season. Obviously we need to keep improving on a daily basis but it’s pretty cool to say that we are the #1 team in the country right now. We’ve been knocking on the door (of the #1 ranking) for the past couple years but now as we shift from the hunter to the hunted we really have to give our best effort consistently on a nightly basis. Historically, everyone has given Hargrave their best shot and I’ve got a feeling that we’ve got a bigger target on our back now.”
