Hargrave Falls to North Cross in Season Opener

This past Friday night, the Hargrave Tigers embarked on their first season under Wade Green. The Tigers hosted the Red Raiders of North Cross at Dick Dyer Field in Chatham, VA. The game was tightly fought through three quarters until North Cross punched it into the endzone at the start of the fourth quarter. The final score was Hargrave – 6, North Cross – 23.

The Tigers were led by the great play of Senior running back/defensive back Joel Thorpe. Thorpe rushed for 58 yards, scored the Tigers lone touchdown, and had multiple key tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Thorpe is playing his first year of football in the States after coming to Hargrave from Beaumont, Alberta.

Hargrave faced tremendous adversity when starting quarterback Connor Zieting had to leave the game due to injury after just the first drive of the game. Freshman, Pierce Scott Choo-Yin, came into the game and played well for the TIgers in his first varsity appearance. Scott Choo-Yin made good decisions with the ball leading to zero turnovers for the Tigers.

The Tigers return to the field this Friday night at 5pm when they will face The Covenant School Eagles. The Eagles are 1-0 after defeating St. John Paul the Great Catholic in their first game.
