The Tigers hosted St. Anne’s-Belfield in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the exciting display of offense, Hargrave was defeated 5-3, bringing their overall record to 1-2-1 on the season.

St. Anne’s-Belfield opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of the game but the Tigers answered right back in the 3rd minute as senior forward Chad Demarest (Naples, FL) buried one past the keeper for the equalizer. Shortly after, Usman Adegbenro’s (Richmond, VA) kick found the back of the net, finish off a beautiful pass from Demarest as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead. Following the Adegbenro goal, St. Anne’s-Belfield answered with three straight goals and maintained the 4-2 lead into halftime. “The match was wide open from the start,” said Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. “We both matched up very well and that was evident in the play on the field. Both teams were up and down exchanging goals early on.”

Both teams held steadfast for the majority of the second half until Demarest knocked in his second goal of the game in the 75th minute, assisted by Jack Haldane (Cary, NC), which cut the St. Anne’s-Belfield lead to 4-3. St. Anne’s-Belfield added a late insurance goal and secured their 5-3 victory despite the Tigers’ best efforts on the pitch this afternoon.
