Hargrave falls to William Byrd

The Varsity Lacrosse Team was in action Tuesday night as they traveled to Roanoke for a contest against the Terriers of William Byrd. The Terriers would strike first in the first period on a man up goal giving them an early 1-0 lead. Steele Burkett would net an equalizing goal in the first on a solo effort from behind the net. Goals were traded between the two teams for much of the first quarter as sophomore Walker Thompson and Senior Steele Burkett would tally goals while defender Russell Ferguson would collect an assist along with Burkett. The Terriers would score an additional goal on the Tigers giving them a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter of play. William Byrd would tally two quick goals at the beginning of the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead in the match-up. Attackmen Michael Sullivan would find the net on an assist from Walker Thompson to cut the lead to 6-4. The second half would end shortly after a goal by William Byrd who would take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

The Tigers would open the scoring for the second half as junior Stephen Chain on a solo effort after winning the opening face-off. Much of the 3rd quarter was at even play as both teams played solid defensive games and held each other to only one goal apiece with the score 8-5 in favor of the Terriers. On the final quarter of play the Tigers would receive another goal from junior Michael Sullivan to give the Tigers a 6 goal total for the day. The Terriers would net their final goal of the game as well in the fourth winning the contest 9-6.

Both teams played great and provided a lot of action at both ends of the field. Defensive standouts for the tigers were sophmore Russell Ferguson ( 1 A, 1 INT, 7 GB), LSMs Christian and Logan Mitchell played extremely well as they each recorded 2 GB and showed great hustle on every play. Midfielder Zdenek Sindelar had a strong game as well as he was able to recover 4 GB and advance the ball up field with his speed and agility. Goaltender Adrian Roman recorded 14 Saves on the day and showed strong leadership on the defensive end of the field.

The Tigers No stand at 3-2 and will travel to Lynchburg on Thursday to take on conference rival LCA.
