Hargrave Gives Outstanding Effort In Defeat

Benjamin J Veshi

On Tuesday afternoon, the Hargrave Tigers hosted the Carlisle Chiefs at Cedars Country Club in Chatham. Despite a season best performance, the Tigers fell by a narrow margin 190-193.

Fresh off their first win of the season as part of a tri-match last week in Harrisonburg, this Hargrave team was poised to keep that momentum rolling with their first of two home matches this week. The Tigers showed outstanding effort and poise and gave Carlisle everything they could handle and more throughout the entirety of the match. Per Head Coach, Richard Phillips, “I couldn’t be more proud of our guys’ effort this afternoon! We posted a season best score, showing a continuous improvement from match over match. We are learning to control the space between our ears and that has been paying dividends in our matches. The sky is truly the limit for this group and I’m excited to keep working this spring!”

Hargrave received key contributions from three specific golfers:
Carter Brinson ’22 (Charlotte, NC) — 42 (tied for the low round of the match)
Sage Wood ’24 (Earlysville, VA) — 42 (personal best; tied for the low round of the match)
Davis Talley ’22 (Clayton, NC) — 55 (personal best)

Hargrave will be back in action from Cedars Country Club on Thursday 4/15 as they host North Cross. The match is set for 4:30 PM.
