Hargrave goes to the end with Liberty Christian

Coach Joe Moran

The JV Basketball team finished their regular season schedule last night with a trip to Lynchburg to take on LCA. This is always a tough venue for us to play in and we always stress mental toughness to overcome situations that we don’t see in any other place. The JV Tigers played extremely well under these circumstances. It wasn’t their best offensive night, but I attribute that to their willingness to play as hard defensively as they have all season.

We were up by two after the first quarter, up by one at the half and only down by one to start the fourth quarter. LCA jumped out to a six point lead at the start of the final frame, the biggest lead for either team to that point. The guys could have buckled at that point, but didn’t. They stayed keyed in mentally and fought back. After tying the game at 31, we had a couple of free-throws to take the lead. They would fall and LCA hit back to back three pointers to push the lead to seven. After that we just ran out of time, final score, 44-37.

The guys put up a great fight and never quit. Cadet Jacobs led the Tigers with 10 points, while Cadet Jennings and Ragland chipped in with six each. All the guys played excellent defense. Cadet Inge was asked to guard a guy 4 inches taller than he was for most of the game and did an outstanding job. We finished second on our conference and will have the chance to play a home tournament game next Thursday.
