Hargrave Golfers Tee It Up In First Match of the Season

Our team opened the season yesterday against Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, and while the final score didn’t go our way—168 to 204—I saw a lot to be encouraged by, especially with three of our players competing in their first-ever match.

One of the biggest highlights of the day came from our youngest player, 8th grader Jaeden Frick. Early in the round, on just his second hole, Jaeden recorded his first-ever high school birdie. After two less-than-perfect shots, he got a fortunate bounce off a hill, setting up an incredibly tough 45-foot putt. Showing great composure, he stepped up and drained it—an exciting moment that energized the team.

While we have plenty to improve upon, I’m proud of how our players competed, especially considering it was the first match of the year. This was a great learning experience, and I know we’ll continue to build on it as the season progresses. We get to bounce back quickly as we head to Roanoke Country Club tomorrow to face Roanoke Catholic.
