Hargrave Hosts 34th Annual Order of the Sabre Banquet

Hargrave’s 34th Annual Order of the Sabre Banquet was held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina. The banquet began with a cocktail reception where members of the Order could mingle and catch up. After cocktail hour, Mr. and Mrs. John Alexis ‘89, the emcees for the night, welcomed everyone.

As the last bites of dinner were taken, Mr. and Mrs. Alexis returned to the podium to begin the program. HMA’s band, directed by Master Sergeant Tyler Selden, played a small jazz number and a military medley. Cadet Sergeant Major Sean Rose ‘24 spoke to the Order about his experience as a Hargrave Cadet and how it is preparing him for lifelong success. After awarding the new Order of the Sabre members with their pins, the crowd heard from Dr. Jim Tung, Hargrave’s Academic Dean. The new Benefactors, Senior Benefactors, and Distinguished Benefactors were presented with their gifts before Hargrave’s President, Eric Peterson, delivered his keynote speech.

Mr. Peterson compared Hargrave to Buffalo, NY. Once a thriving city, Buffalo found itself struggling for years until recently, the city has begun to grow again. To quote Mr. Peterson, “In parallel fashion, a distinguished school like ours could easily find itself trapped in the amber of its prior achievements, but Hargrave is constantly growing and evolving. We will continue to think critically, act creatively, and remain resolute in our efforts on behalf of Hargrave and the cadets we serve”. Hargrave’s Color Guard retired the colors to end the evening.
