Hargrave Lacrosse edged by Roanoke Catholic

Coach Matt Brawn

The Varsity Lacrosse Team opened the season Tuesday afternoon against Conference rival Roanoke Catholic. In what has always been a close competition the Tigers and the Celtics of Roanoke Catholic traded blows through much of the game as each team would win two quarters of play. The Tigers won the first with a 3-1 goal advantage with goals from Cadets Connor Rogers, Chris Brunetti and Russell Ferguson with assist credited to Cadet Justin Malinow (1) and Rogers (2).

Catholic would take the second and third as poor decisions and penalties by the Tigers allowed the Celtics a window to gain a significant advantage in contest and limit tiger goals to only 2 by Cadets Chris Brunetti and Russell Ferguson. The Fourth Quarter was dominated by the Tigers as they would go on a 8-1 run with goals from Cadet Corey Goodman (1), Malinow (1), Rogers (2), Brunetti (3). Players credited with assist in the fourth quarter were Cadets Raines Wall (1), Ferguson (1), Brunetti (1) and Rogers (1). First year goaltender Cadet Henry Averett did a fantastic job in net as he recorded 14 saves.

Roanoke Catholic would take the victory with a final score of 18-13.

The Tigers Lacrosse Team will travel to Charlottesville to take on the Covenant School Thursday @ 6:15. The Game will be played on the turf at University of Virginia.
