Hargrave Lacrosse Shows Covenant a Cliff

On a cool and breezy afternoon the Tiger Lacrosse Team traveled to Lynchburg for a matchup against the Gryphons of New Covenant School. Following the opening face-off the Tigers would only need two minutes and 15 second of time to net their first of many goals of the afternoon as Midfielder Cadet Stephen Chain found the back of the net on a solo effort. Cadet Tobi Bamisaiye would collect a goal soon after. Late in the first quarter Chain would once again sling the rock past the goalie for his second tally of the day giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Chain on a solo effort after winning the faceoff would stick a third goal to kick off the second quarter of play. Attackmen Cadet Michael Sullivan would find the net three times in the second quarter along with midfielder Bamisaiye striking for his second goal of the game. The first half would end on a quick goal from senior attackman Cadet Steele Burkett on a feeding pass from midfielder Cadet Dylan Eberhard. The Tigers would close the first half of play with a 9-0 advantage.

The second half of play showcased many of the reserve players for the Tigers. Who did a great job possessing the ball and gaining valuable game experience. Standout performances from this group included Cadets Zdenek Sindilar, Mitchell Baker, Noah Richard, Christian Mitchell and Logan Mitchell. With the 3rd quarter drawing to an end the Tgiers would get a second score from Burkett on a Cadet Russell Ferguson assist. Cadets Walker Thompson, Michael Sullivan and Burkett would all add goals with Burkett and Ferguson also adding additional points in the assist category before being subbed out of the game in the remaining five minutes. The Tigers finished 13-0.

Defensive contributors from the midfield where Cadets Dylan Eberhard, Mitchell Baker and Zack King. Long Poles Ryan Brown, Ferguson and Nick Foster would all play solid defense locking down the inside and forcing the Gryphons to take long outside and bad angle shots.

Goaltender Cadet Adrian Roman would make seven saves on the day and record his first shutout of the 2013 season. Backup Goalie Cadet Andrew Willi would take over for Roman in the final five minutes of the game , but would not collect and shots on goal for saves by the Gryphons.

The Tigers advance to 2-0 on the season and will play host to the Bulldogs of LCA in a Divisional Matchup on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
