Hargrave Military Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Kyle Fleming as the Academy’s Head Baseball Coach effective August 21. Fleming brings a distinctive combination of college coaching, professional baseball scouting, and military leadership experience.
A 2009 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Fleming earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics while competing for Army Baseball as a four-year letter winner and starting outfielder. Following his graduation from West Point, Fleming remained at the Academy as a Graduate Assistant Coach with Army Baseball before beginning his service as an officer in the United States Army. He later earned a Master of Science in Agribusiness Management from Delaware Valley University in 2024.
For Hargrave President Sloan Gibson, himself a graduate of the United States Military Academy, Fleming’s foundation and experience make him particularly well suited to develop young men within Hargrave’s four pillars. “Kyle understands firsthand the tremendous role that structure, accountability, discipline, and teamwork can play in developing young men,” Gibson said. “His experience gives him an appreciation for our military model that extends far beyond baseball. He understands that our responsibility is not simply to develop better students or better athletes, but to develop young men of character who are prepared for lifelong success.”
Fleming also brings extensive experience in professional baseball, including scouting and player development. He worked within the Toronto Blue Jays organization as an Amateur Video Coordinator and East Coast/Midwest Scout. His professional baseball experience also includes time with the Washington Nationals organization and as an Associate Scout for the Atlanta Braves.
Fleming later returned to collegiate coaching at Delaware Valley University, first serving as Assistant Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator before being named Head Baseball Coach in December 2022.
Athletic Director Patrick Henry said Fleming’s combination of coaching, scouting, leadership, and military experience made him an exceptional fit for Hargrave Athletics. “Kyle brings a depth of experience that is difficult to find in one coach,” Henry said. “He has led a college baseball program, evaluated talent at the professional level, and played and coached at West Point. More importantly, he understands that coaching at Hargrave is about developing the whole person.”
For Fleming, the opportunity to lead Hargrave Baseball represents a natural intersection of two significant parts of his career: baseball and military leadership.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Hargrave Military Academy and lead its baseball program,” Fleming said. “This is a unique environment where we can challenge young men to grow as baseball players, students, teammates, and leaders. I look forward to building relationships with our cadets and families and continuing to build a program that represents Hargrave with pride.”
At Hargrave, Fleming will take the helm of the baseball program, combining high-level player development with the structure, accountability, and leadership development that distinguish the Hargrave experience.
