Staff Reports

VeshiHargrave Military Academy welcomes the arrival of Coach Ben Veshi as the Academy’s Head Varsity Basketball Coach. His team and new position will contribute to Hargrave’s Basketball program.

“Coach Veshi brings an unbelievable skill set to Hargrave’s varsity program,” Coach A.W. Hamilton, Hargrave’s Basketball Program Director, said. “He is a relentless worker, a great basketball mind and, above all, a high character person. We’re lucky to have someone with as much experience at the scholarship level in this position. There’s no doubt that with Coach Veshi’s guidance, we will continue to build the varsity program to championship levels.”

Veshi arrives at Hargrave from NCAA Division II Catawba College, where he joined the Indians as a coach for the 2014-2015 Academic year. He served as the recruiting coordinator for the Indians in addition to his on-court coaching and operations management duties.

Prior to his time at Catawba, Veshi served as a top assistant for both the men’s and women’s programs at perennial NEPSAC contender Marianapolis Prep in Connecticut. Veshi also has extensive experience working with basketball camps across the Nation, including a stint in the operations department with Hoop Group Elite.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of the Hargrave Basketball family,” Veshi said. “Beyond the basketball, Hargrave is on the forefront of character education and it’s reputation stretches far and wide. I have gone through the rigors of being a student athlete at the scholarship level, and I’m looking forward to helping prepare these young men for success at the next level in all phases of life. With such a talented core of athletes returning next year, I’m confident we will continue to reach new heights as a program. I cannot wait to get to work.”

As a basketball player, Veshi was a part of Catawba College’s 2009-2010 South Atlantic Conference Championship team as a manager prior to walking on to the team to finish his last three years at the school, serving as team co-captain in his senior year.

Veshi graduated from Catawba in 2013 with a BS degree in Sports Management and a minor in Business Administration. He earned academic honors in all eight of his college semesters, and was a member of Phi Epsilon, the Academic Honor Society at Catawba.

Veshi’s new position begins immediately. His first official duties on campus will be running the basketball camp during Hargrave’s Summer School and Camp starting June 25th.
