Hargrave Military Academy raised $2052 during ‘The Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Basketball Challenge’ held at the Academy on January 11, 2011. Three teams, Massanutten Military Academy, St. Ignatios Prep and Believe Prep joined Hargrave during the challenge.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research (http://www.jimmyv.org/) was the recipient of the proceeds. The V Foundation is supports by both Pepsi and sports legend Dick Vitale. Vitale endorsed The Challenge saying, “Please support ‘The Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge’ at Hargrave Military Academy. They are helping in the battle against cancer, a disease that affects all whether one is rich or poor, black or white. That disease can bring you to your knees. We must all unite to beat that disease.”Vitale is one of the most prominent figures of The V Foundation. He was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
Vitale recently received the check along with a Hargrave shirt, a picture of the 2011-2012 Hargrave Post-Graduate basketball team presenting a check, a plush Tiger and a mug.
The Hargrave squad beat Believe Prep 111-88 during The Challenge.
