Hargrave shows progress

Coach Ed Ott

Our boys faced their Goliath brothers last night and came out better than expected. Both Dan River and Chatham H.S. have solid programs that result in wrestlers coming back for 3-5 years. Our last run against these teams left us licking our wounds, so to speak.

But not last night! We fought like true tigers and brought many matches to the very last second. Pederson and Slay pulled an amazing feat at the end of their matches to secure a win after being in a losing position for most of the match. Weber was so determined not to allow the opposing teams crowd to cheer for a pin that he made a herculean effort not to get pinned. He lost by a Tech Fall (winner is 15 or more points ahead) but did not get pinned. Mize and Scott earned a first period pin and many matches were won by Decision (no more than 7 point difference). In an exhibition match Richardson inadvertently entertained the crowd with some Mohammed Ali footwork and some rather confident “I got this” hand signals to the coach and fellow team mates.

Chatham still beat us 24 – 30 and Dan River stood tall with 18 – 26 but our boys can still walk with their heads up for their defense against two formidable opponents.
