Hargrave takes first win of the season from Westover

Coach Luke Davis

The JV Baseball team traveled to Westover Christian and earned its first win of the season and finished the game after the 6th inning by a score of 23-12.

The Tigers roared out to a 7 – 0 lead in the first inning. The team batted around in the first inning by taking advantage of walks, errors and some timely hitting. The offense kept rolling by getting key hits and taking advantage of the opponents mistakes throughout the game, scoring 23 runs. Key contributors included Cadet Samson with 2 runs scored 3 RBI’s and Cadet Saliu with 2 runs scored with 2 RBI’s.  Additionally, Cadet Seth Collins had the fluke play of the night by stealing first and recording a RBI on a strikeout.

On the mound Cadet Austin Samson started the game by pitching 2 no hit innings, with 5 K’s. We had a few problems finding the strike zone against some of their small players, but Cadets Noah Blackwell, Justin Yoon and Xavier Conrad all had strong pitching performances to follow Samson. We had some miscues in the field that allowed a number of runs, but the tigers kept fighting.

Overall, it was a great learning experience for the young men. We look to build upon the success with a game Friday at home against Fuqua. Dr. Tung showed up and got some good pictures of the action. Check out the link in our photo gallery.
