Hargrave Welcomes Local 6th Graders

Hargrave Military Academy is excited to announce the return of 6th grade enrollment for day students, with our inaugural class starting in August 2024. Hargrave is thriving and expanding, driven by our commitment to providing a structured and supportive environment for the next generation of young men. Our 6th grade program addresses the unique challenges faced by pre-teens, focusing on mentorship, collaborative teacher teams, and age-appropriate educational approaches.

Parent feedback has been instrumental in shaping the 6th grade program. One parent highlighted, “This is a big transition year. I need structure and positive male influences for my son, who is a good student but lacks a strong male role model.” Another parent emphasized the importance of avoiding transitional challenges, stating, “We want our son in a structured, close-knit environment with accountability and continuity in education from one grade to the next.”

To ensure students receive the attention and support they need, we are capping the initial 6th grade enrollment at eight students. This allows for smaller classroom environments, fostering academic excellence and stronger bonds with peers and mentors.

Hargrave President Eric Peterson stated, “It’s been more than 20 years since Hargrave offered a 6th grade program. Today’s program is designed to meet the specific needs of young men during this crucial stage of their development. By providing a structured and supportive environment, we aim to help our students build a strong foundation for future success at Hargrave and beyond.”
