Danville’s Register and Bee has named its All-Metro wrestling coach and All-Metro wrestling team in its July, 23, 2012 edition. Hargrave Coach J.C. Coleman was named as the newspaper’s All-Metro Coach of the Year.

The Register and Bee stated, “J.C. Coleman, Hargrave Military Academy, led the Tigers to a 4th Place finish at the VIC (Virginia Independent Conference), a 10th Place showing at the VISAA (Virginia Independent State Athletic Association competition) and had two wrestlers advance to the prep national tournament. Coleman had two wrestlers claim VIC Championships and one claim a state title.”

The 2012 National Prep Wrestling Championship was held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Three of Coleman’s wrestlers were also named First Team All-Metro wrestlers. Each wrestler competed in the heavier weight divisions. They were:

Marcus Chase, 195 pounds: Chase maintained a 30-6 record; took 4th Place at the VISAA (recording the most falls in the least amount of time); and advanced to the prep national wrestling tournament.

Cody Day, 220 pounds: Day maintained a 31-4 record; a VIC Champion; and took 8th Place at the VISAA tournament.

Nigel Cawthon, 285 pounds: Cawthon maintained a 35-3 record; a VIC Champion; a VISAA Champion; and advanced to the prep national wrestling tournament.
