Hargrave’s VIC advance stops with Covenant

Coach Joe Moran

Hargrave finished second in our conference and had the privilege of hosting a playoff game. That hasn’t happened at the JV level for some time.

The Covenant school proved to be a worthy opponent and after a relatively even first quarter, they jumped out to an eight point lead at halftime. The third quarter was much the same with Covenant taking a ten point lead into the final seven minutes. But, as it has been all year, these guys just wouldn’t give up and they battled back, going on a 12-2 run to tie the score midway through the final quarter. But, Covenant answered by hitting their free-throws down the stretch. They managed to make ten free-throws down the stretch to keep the Tigers at bay and pull out a 52-47 victory and ending our season.

We all were left with the feeling that we could have won, but in the end learned that sometimes things don’t turn out exactly how you want. For the season we won eight games, that was seven more games than we won last year.  As a team we had eight Cadets average between four and nine points per game, with eight different Cadet being the high scorer over the 16 games we played.  They truly played as a team and I couldn’t be more proud.

Even though our last game did not go as we had hoped, we still consider this season to have been very successful.
