Iran Bennett, one of the nation’s most sought after recruits, has ended his commitment. Bennett announced that he was committing to the Marshall University Thundering Herd, giving Marshall it’s second commitment from a Hargrave Cadet (Tanner Robinette). Iran is in his second year at Hargrave Military Academy, playing a key role for a team that went 47-1 and captured the 2016 Prep National Championship. He was recruited by dozens of Division-1 schools, including many ACC, SEC and Big East schools, but chose Marshall after going on an official visit two weeks ago.
“You won’t find a better person than Iran Bennett,” Head coach A.W. Hamilton commented. “His personality and individual character are invaluable to our program, and on top of that, he has the potential to make it all the way to the NBA. I’m so grateful that Iran’s family has shared him with us for the past two years. He has come such a long way in all aspects, and I could not be more proud of the young man that he is turning into. Iran instantly makes Marshall a team to beat in the Conference U.S.A.”
Bennett, a Raleigh native, has been on the national scene for some time, ranging from a three to four star by the prominent recruiting services. Bennett’s commitment is the 7th so far for the Tigers, all of whom are Division 1 commits. Iran and his teammates will take their first step towards pursuing back-to-back titles tomorrow, Thursday October 20th in an exhibition against Forrest Trails Academy. The game will tip off at 6:30 in the Walter Davis Gymnasium. The team’s first official game of the season will be October 28th at 6:00pm against Patrick Henry as part of Hargrave’s annual Tip-off Classic.
