Jackie Johnson Eclipses 2,000 Career Points

On Wednesday afternoon, Jackie Johnson ’21 surpassed an elusive milestone. With his fourth 3-pointer made in the game against Experience Academy, Johnson’s career point total ticked over the 2,000 point plateau.

Johnson has been a force on offense all year for the Tigers, averaging a staggering 29.2 points per game while shooting 59.3% from the field. Johnson’s shooting ability has also been on display this season, as he has connected on 53.1% of his 3-point field goal attempts, while making over 4 per game. Johnson averaged 25.4 points per game in three seasons at Southeast High School in Wichita, Kansas before transferring to Hargrave for his senior season.

“Jackie is having the best offensive season I’ve seen in my 9 years at Hargrave,” commented Head Coach Thomas Messinger. “He shoots the ball consistently every time he comes on the court- practice, games, you name it. He is one of the best shooters, and one of the best scorers in the country. There are few players in the country that can attack you from all three levels like Jackie can. Most days he is completely unguardable.”

Johnson, who was recently rated the #4 unsigned point guard in the 2021 recruiting class by Rivals, has received scholarship offers from East Carolina, St. Bonaventure, North Texas and others in the last few weeks. He has also been hearing from schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Georgia as he continues to weigh his options.

Johnson leads the Tigers in points per game (29.2), 3-pointers made per game (4.1), 3-point percentage (53.1) and assists (6.5), while ranking second in steals per game (2.1). The Tigers recently completed the program’s 4th undefeated season on record, and are currently the highest scoring team in team history at 114.3 points per game.

Johnson will look to lead the Tigers to a National Championship in Rock Hill, SC on March 12-14. The Tigers will be the #2 overall seed in the tournament and will take on #7 seed DME in the Elite 8 round on Friday.
