Hargrave is proud to announce that John Bailey has been hired as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach for the 2019 season.
A graduate of George Washington High School and alumnus of Danville Community College, he served two years in the US Army First Cavalry Division in Vietnam, receiving a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Coach Bailey has coached for over 35 years and has been very successful in coaching American Legion Post 325 from 1996 until 2010, compiling a record of 484-162 and winning the 1998 Virginia State Championship. He has had runner-up teams four times throughout his 15 years with Post 325.
Coach Bailey most recently coached at DCC, a post he held for 17 years. He guided the Knights to four VCCS championships and runner-up five times. Coach Bailey was voted Coach of the Year four times from 2002-2010 in the Virginia Community College Conference.
In 2011, DCC joined the NJCAA. In 2016, DCC won the NJCAA DIII Region X Championship and Coach Bailey was voted Coach of the Year. His overall record at DCC was 440-297.
Since 1996, Coach Bailey, while coaching American Legion Post 325 and the DCC Knights, has a combined record of 924-459.
Coach Bailey is married to Nina; has a son, Brad; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; and two grandchildren, Brayden and Bella.
