JV Baseball enjoys dry weather as they topple VES

Coach Luke Davis

It is exciting every time the JV team gets to play because of all the rain outs this year. We started out down 2-1 after the first inning. In the 3rd inning we scratched across a run to tie the game. In the 5th inning, we erupted for 5 runs and batted around. We scored more runs in the 6th and 7th inning to finalize the score at 13-4.

We traveled with nine players, and had an injury during the game. VES graciously let us borrow a player so that we could complete the game. It was a great act of sportsmanship to let the kids play the game.
The team turned in another good defensive effort limiting our mistakes. Cadet Seth Collins had never played catcher before and did an excellent job. He threw out a base runner attempting to steal second. Cadet Austin Samson had a strong performance on the mound. He pitched a complete game (7 innings). Samson struck out 14, while allowing only 4 runs (1 earned), and only walking 2 hits and one walk.
At the plate, we had an all around strong effort.  Every player reached base at least once. Cadet Adam Saliu and Collins both went 2 for 5. Saliu scored 3 runs, while Collins had 4 RBI’s. Samson went 3 for 5, with 3 runs and 2 RBI’s.
