JV Baseball faces off with Fork Union

Carlos Alvelo

The JV baseball team made the laborious trek to Fork Union, Virginia, to take on the Fork Union JV baseball team. Their team had won on our home field earlier in the season, so we were looking to return the favor. The Hargrave team had prepared well, and was feeling confident going into the game. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what we had desired. Result: Hargrave 4  FUMA 18.  Due to the long trip to Fork Union, and our arrival time at FUMA, the team only had a short time to warm up prior to the game. This resulted in our mechanics not being quite up to par during the game.

Although the final result was disappointing, there are certainly positive plays throughout the game. Luis Rodriquez started the game, and for the most part pitched well over 2 innings by allowing 4 runs, only two of which were earned. There were good efforts put forth by Chandler Wilkie, Adam Saliu, and Amir McCloe on the offensive end. The team had many opportunities as they had several men on base during every inning of play.
However, in the end, they left too many runners on base, allowed too many walks and passed balls, and committed some mental and physical errors, which made it very difficult to overcome the deficit.

We still have a lot to be proud of with these young men. They kept a positive attitude in the dugout and encouraged each other throughout the game. Our next, and final game, is Thursday, April 28,  at home against Miller School at 4:30 pm. Go Hargrave!
