Summary
The final chapter of the 2003-4 JV basketball season was written in what a dozen and a half young men and one old boy will relive the rest of their lives as a championship season. Covenant played the best defense we had seen all season. Their front line was the biggest we have faced. Matt Reynolds, Matt Long, Chase Babington, and Jeff Oboite rotated on their big center and harassed him into numerous bad shots and turn-overs with the help of double teams from the guards. Daniel McCauley covered their best scorer for nearly the entire game harassing him and getting him out of his game. Our big men had their first game of the season as our best scoring opportunities. Repeatedly our guards would penentrate and as the big men rotated over to cover, they dished the ball to our post players for easy scoring opportunities. The half time score was only 18-11 in our favor, so we werent exactly burning it up. We came out of the half in a 4 guard alignment that caught our opponent off guard for a few possessions and Gary Sue hit an important 3-pointer and Nick Barr hit a circus like reverse lay-up to give us our biggest cushion of the game. The rest of the game was a series of mini-runs by Covenant and fast-break opportunities by us as the opponent was forced to press us full court. The game was not decided until there was only 13 seconds left and Covenent missed a series of 3 point attempts off offensive rebounds. Nick Barr and Collin Ferguson had 6 points, Sue 5, Long 4, Babington 2, Matt Reynolds 8, and McCauley had a team high 11. Special Thanks to the Reynolds clan for their repeated support of the team including the championship feast. Also thanks to the Sues, McCauleys, Longs, and Campbells for comming to numerous games, and to Jared Leaper, Adam Buncher, Winston Wolfe, and Garrett Jennings for acting as score keepers and managers. The team ended the season with a record of 17-1 and as VIC champions.
