Hargrave 26 – LCA 16

HARGRAVE JV FOOTBALL ENDS SEASON WITH TWO GAME WINNING STREAK

The Hargrave JV Football team finished the season with a 2 game win streak after defeating the visiting LCA Bulldogs 26 – 16. In order to keep some size/age match-ups equal, some of the older tigers did not play as much as normal. However, they kept great attitudes throughout the game and cheered on the younger players who got some much deserved time on the field. A season full of long, hard, hot practices paid off and the tigers walked away with a much earned win.

On offense, the tigers were lead by a strong effort from the offensive line. Steven Hancock had an outstanding game, pulling in 2 TD passes from QB Phillip Schwartz. Chris Ivery had a rushing TD and Jonathan Lee got his first rushing TD of the season. Ivery, Lee, and Michael Princivil all had very productive days on the ground. The receivers were lead by Hancock, but several players had catches for nice gains.

On defense, Hargrave had another strong game allowing only one TD in each half. LCA’s first TD of the game came on their first drive in the opening minutes of the game. The tigers did not allow another score until the 4th quarter. The defensive line had a great game. They combined for several sacks and tackles behind the line of scrimmage. The defensive backs were challenged constantly, but held strong and stuck to the receivers like glue.

On special teams, Reeves Hollar had a great day returning kickoffs, gaining the tigers some great starting field position. Hargrave did not punt once in the entire contest, showing how well the offense controlled the game clock. It was a great all-around effort.

The JV tigers ended the season with a 2-4 record, but were a perfect 2-0 at home this year. The players all improved greatly over the course of the season, which is the main goal at the junior varsity level. The coaches are very proud of the effort, attitude, and perseverance that the players showed all season long. A special ‘thank you’ goes out to all of the parents that traveled countless miles to support the program, the bus drivers who safely got us to the games and back, and to everyone else that helped out in any way. Your efforts are all appreciated by the coaches, players, and the school.
