JV Soccer vs. Virginia Episcopal School

Hargrave 2 – VES 1

The Tigers obtained their second victory of the season over Virginia Episcopal School with a score of 2-1.

Hargrave came out aggressive right after the initial whistle, setting the pace, creating opportunities and finding the spaces. We accumulated a total of ten shots on goal during the first period and were able to beat their well-planted goalie once on this half.

Our first goal came from J. D. Hubbard, who put the Tigers ahead in the score when he took a rebound from the goalie and sent a deep shot to the far post.

When the referee blew the halftime whistle, Hargrave was ahead in the score against VES for the first time in two years.

VES changed tactics and came out more aggressive on the second period, making our defense work hard to keep them at bay. However, the Hargrave Tigers broke loose in one return and scored a second goal, this time off the cleats of Ben Oliver.

VES kept the pressure on and found the end of our net once with ten minutes of game time remaining. An invigorated VES kept trying, but our defense commanded by Ward Owen closed tight and allowed few chances.

Hargrave defensive team had a commendable performance. Goalie Jin Wooh had ten saves and the combined efforts of Andrew Shin, Victor Milano, and Michael Rathbun helped stop the VES’ advances.
