Hargrave Military Academy Cadet Rashard Kelly has committed to Wichita State University, the Shockers, in Wichita, Kansas. Kelly is a member of Hargrave’s 2013-2014 postgraduate basketball program. He is the first commitment out of the 2013-2014 postgraduate class.

“We’re very excited for Rashard. He’s a tremendous player, person and student athlete,” said Coach A.W. Hamilton, Hargrave’s postgraduate head coach. “He’s fully qualified with the NCAA and is a great addition to the Wichita State program.”

Boston College, George Washington, Marshall, and Xavier all had an interest in Kelly, who is a forward. The 6-foot-8-inch Kelly was heavily recruited by Wichita, who connected well with him during a recent official visit. Kelly’s commitment is currently verbal, since NCAA rules prevent players from signing until November 13, 2013.

“I can’t say enough good things about my coaches, teammates, teachers and administration at Hargrave,” Kelly said. “I can now focus on winning a prep national championship and getting prepared for Shocker Nation.”

“We all believe Rashard is the type of player that can help lead Wichita State back to the Final Four,” Hamilton said.

Since 1964, Witchita has made numerous runs that the annual NCAA Basketball Tournament. This record includes nine appearances in the tournament and one appearance in the Final Four.
