Hargrave Lacrosse opened the season with a VIC match-up against Roanoke Catholic. The matchup showcased two evenly-matched teams that traded goals throughout the game. The Tigers led through the second half 10-7, but the Celtics of Roanoke Catholic were able to take advantage of a couple miscues from the Tigers and close the gap to 10-10 with 1:27 left in regulation. While the Tigers played strong all game and had the opportunity to clinch the game with a late-game score, they were not able to convert. The Celtics capitalized on the opportunity, scoring with 6 seconds left on the clock in the closing moments of the game to take the lead and finish with an 11-10 victory over the Tigers.
Standout performances from the Tigers included Connor Rogers who earned 10 points on the day with 7 goals and 3 assists. Nick Duran handled the majority of the face-offs for the Tigers and tallied 3 points in the game with 1 goal and a pair of assists. Alex Wilson recorded 2 goals in his first game with Hargrave Lacrosse. Defenders Graham Kelly and Caleb Rogers had strong performances on defense and goaltender Jackson Reeder played a solid game between the pipes all day.
