Late Penalty Kick Ends Comeback Bid

In a back-and-forth game that was hanging in the balance until the final minutes of regulation, the Tigers dropped a heartbreaker to Blue Ridge by a score of 5-4.

Hargrave jumped out to a quick start with a gorgeous free kick by Chris Czarnecki in the 5th minute to give the Tigers the early edge. Blue Ridge would go on to score the next three goals to enter halftime leading 3-1.

In typical Hargrave fashion, the Tigers came storming out in the second half, with Cznarnecki increasing his goal total in the 45th and 55th minute to knot the game at 3-3. Blue Ridge would bounce back to score a goal of their own in the 68th minute, giving them a 4-3 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Trailing 4-3 with just five minutes left in the game, Chris Czarnecki capped off his monster game with his 4th goal, this time tying the game at 4-4. The jubilation quickly turned to heartbreak for the Tigers as Blue Ridge was awarded a penalty kick just before the end of regulation. They converted the opportunity and escaped with a 5-4 win in a game that will long be remembered by both sides.

The Tigers return to action on Monday, September 14th as they take on New Covenant in Lynchburg. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30.
