Macklin ’06 Selected in the Second Round of the 2011 NBA Draft

Hargrave alumni Vernon Macklin ’06 was selected in the second round of the 2011 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft by the Detroit Pistons.

Macklin (Florida) was selected by the Pistons along with first round selection Brandon Knight (Kentucky) and fellow second round selection Kyle Singler (Duke). Macklin was the 52nd selection overall.

Macklin attended Hargrave as a Cadet during the 2005-2006 academic year. He played for Hargrave’s Post-Graduate basketball team under Coach Kevin Keatts and then Assistant Coach A.W. Hamilton, where he was an early signer to Georgetown. Macklin would later transfer to Florida.

He participated in two NCAA Final Four basketball tournaments, playing for Georgetown in 2007 and Florida in 2011.
