Middle School Basketball Caves in OT to Epiphany School

Assistant AD
The Hargrave Middle School basketball team had another exciting game, but lost a heart-breaker, falling to an improved Epiphany team in overtime. The Tigers, playing without two of their key players, started the game well, and took an 8 to 7 first quarter lead. They played good basketball in the second quarter, extending their lead to 17-11 at the half.

They maintained that lead in the third quarter, still leading 23-17. In the fourth quarter Epiphany made several key plays to cut the lead to one, then made a basket to lead by one with about a minute left. The Tigers fought back, got several offensive rebounds after missed shots, and finally made a basket to take the lead with less than 30 seconds left.

The Tigers played hard on defense, but committed a foul and Epiphany made the first of two free throws to tie the game at 29-29. The Tigers rebounded the 2nd shot, but time ran out before they could get a shot off. In the overtime, the Tigers were down to their last substitute, and began to run out of gas.

Everything went Epiphany’s way, and the wheels fell off the bus for the Tigers. Epiphany ended up on top in a hard-fought contest, 42-29. Ben Badami was Hargrave’s leading scorer with 11 points. Zack Packer added 10, Slater Barefoot had four points, and Gabriel Cabral and Timon Fonfara added two points each. The Tigers’ next game will be on Thursday, February 9th at 5:00 at Roanoke Catholic.
