Miles Kelly Scores 1,000th Career Point

Miles Kelly ’21 joined an exclusive fraternity of basketball players on February 23rd. Kelly eclipsed the 1,000 point milestone with his fifth point of the game, continuing on to score a team-high 27 points in the victory over Hosanna College.

Kelly starred at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia before transferring to Hargrave Military Academy for his senior season. Kelly’s achievement is even more impressive when taken into account that he did not play varsity basketball as a freshman.

“Miles is one of the smoothest scorers to come through our program,” commented Head Coach Thomas Messinger. “He has a rare ability to take over a game and create his own shot when needed, but also to find spots to score within our system. He can make things happen with the ball in his hands, but he can also put pressure on defenses without the ball because of his shooting ability. Having a player like that on the court opens up a lot of opportunities for other players because he’s such a difficult cover.”

The 6’5″ shooting guard has seen his stock soar since last season, and currently sits as the #93 ranked player in the Rivals 2021 Top 100 after being unranked last year. Kelly will look to continue to fill the stat sheet next season at Georgia Tech, where the Atlanta-area native said he wants to become a hometown hero.

Kelly’s 17.3 points per game, 3.4 3-pointers made per game and 46.1% 3-point percentage all rank second on the team for the undefeated (27-0) Tigers. He also leads the Tigers in deflections with 7.1 per game. His team has averaged more points per game (114.3) than any other Hargrave team on record.

Kelly will look to help lead the Tigers to a National Championship in Rock Hill, SC on March 12-14. The Tigers will be the #2 overall seed in the tournament and will take on #7 seed DME in the Elite 8 round on Friday.
