The Hargrave PG Tigers knew that once again, they would have to go on the road and win a pivotal game in a hostile environment. Thursday night was that night. In front of rival Fishburne Military Academy’s cadet core and a slew of fans, the Tigers overcame a late Fishburne lead in regulation and edged the Caissons in overtime.

Down three with 19 seconds to go, Coach Hamilton called a timeout and set up a three-point play for Codi Miller-McIntyre (Wake Forest). Miller-McIntyre hit a DEEP fadeaway 3-pointer with four seconds left to tie the game at 106. Fishburne missed a floater at the buzzer and the game was sent into overtime.

In overtime, Hargrave raced out to a 113-108 lead, before Fishburne stormed back with two 3-pointers to take the lead. Miller Mc-Intyre tied the game at 117 with 1:34 to go seconds later. After a defensive stop by the Tigers, the unsung hero of the game emerged. Hamilton called a timeout to set up a play for Miller-McIntyre, out of the timeout Miller-McIntyre drove the lane and found a wide open teammate in the corner . That teammate, Charles Haigler, hit a clutch, game winning 3-pointer for the Tigers. When asked about the shot Haigler responded “I knew it was good when it left my hands.”

The Tigers had plenty of players step up for this game. Montrezl Harrell (Virginia Tech) had the biggest night in recent Hargrave memory. Harrell was absolutely dominant, and finished with an amazing 51 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Codi Miller-McIntyre finished with an impressive 32 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds. Ryan Taylor finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Carter Wright provided a huge spark off the bench, especially in the first half when he came in and hit four consectuive 3-pointers. Wright finished with 14 points.
