The Hargrave Tigers PG Basketball team has started their 2022-23 campaign on a blistering tear to the tune of a 19-0 record during the first few months of play! The Tigers are playing a fast-paced, up-tempo style of basketball that fans have been accustomed to seeing inside historic Walter Davis Gymnasium for years and this year’s group is tickling the twine with a cool 103.9 points per game mark. Hargrave has eclipsed the 90 point mark 14 times thus far and have scored in triple digits ten times this season with an average margin of victory sitting at 31.3 points per game!
The Tigers have thwarted three nationally ranked opponents, all on neutral courts, in St. Thomas More, New Hampton School, and DME Academy but the highlight of the first semester came on December 10th, as the Tigers found themselves in a road battle against rival Fork Union Military Academy for the FUMA Christmas Tournament Championship and the opportunity to add another chapter in this storied rival, the greatest in prep school basketball. The environment and atmosphere was second to none and throughout a game of runs, the Tigers had more in the tank than their rival and emerged triumphant with an 84-77 victory in an immense test on the road!
Hargrave finds themselves with a loaded schedule throughout the second semester with several big events including the Hoophall Showcase (Springfield, MA), the Durham MLK Classic (Durham, NC), the Relentless Hoops Military Circuit (Chatham, NC), and the Elite Prep League Championship (Richmond, VA) among other key matchups as they gear up for the stretch run in March!
