PG Football vs. Fork Union Military Academy

Hargrave 27 – Fork Union 0

The Post Graduate football team traveled to Fork Union, VA to take on the Fork Union Military Academy Post Graduate Team on Friday. The P.G. Tigers look solid in many aspects of the game Friday and came out with a 27-0 victory over their in-state rival. This was the second shutout in a row (1st coming last year in the season ending victory for the Tigers 6-0) against Fork Union. The offense showed explosiveness throughout the day as they accumulated over 300 yards of total offense. Quarterback Doug Williams Jr. threw for 210 yards and 3 touchdowns including scoring strikes of 60 and 74 yards to Clemson signee Martavis Bryant. Bryant had a solid day ending with 174 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. Baylor Signee Eddie Johnson added a spectacular jump ball catch in triple coverage for a touchdown as well. The ground effort was led by Derrick Milton and Jamal Satchell combining for 110 yards rushing (70 and 40 yards respectfully). The entire offensive line group provided good pushes up front all day, and gave the quarterbacks time to make decisions in the passing game.

Defensively, the Tigers looked sharp as the accounted 5 turnovers and 6 sacks on the day. Helped by field position the defense held Fork Union to 53 yards of offensive on the day, and the “Bend but Don’t Break” attitude as well to help secure the shutout. The 6 sacks were credited to Clemson Signee Corey Crawford (2), Jimmy O’Grady, Keevon Newsome, Mike Battle and Marc Duchaine. The biggest hit of the day came as Marc Duchaine landed a bone jarring hit on the quarterback’s bland side also causing a fumble which was recovered by Forrest Mason. Isaiah Moore, Jaz Downer, Jered Bennett, and Micheal Phillips each accounted for 1 interception apiece in the game. Special Teams played well as punter Tyler Collins pinned the Fork Union offense inside their own 20 on a couple occasions. Kicker Patrick Clarke showed his powerful leg on kickoffs as well as his accuracy going 3-3 on PAT’s and 2-2 on Field Goals (33 and 28 yards).

The P.G.’s look to build from this game and carry their momentum forward as they take on Guilford College this Sunday Sept, 12th, at 2 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
