PJ Hairston Named 2011 McDonalds All American

On February 10, 2011, ESPN-U announced the 2011 McDonald’s All Americans for the McDonald’s All American game on March 30, 2011 at Chicago’s famed United Center.

Named for this very elite opportunity was Cadet PJ Hairston of Hargrave’s Post-Graduate basketball team. Hairston, a senior playing as a Post-Graduate, was selected out of 2000-2500 players, boys and girls, for the team. He will play for the East Team.

Cadet Hairston is the son of Wendy Poteat of Greensboro, North Carolina.

The McDonald’s All American Games are recognized as the premier all-star event featuring the top high school basketball talent in the country. The Games annually showcase 24 boys and 24 girls from a pool of more than 2,500 nominees nationwide. Since 1978, more than 1,000 players have competed in the McDonald’s All American Games, forming an elite list that includes some of the top names in basketball history.

The proceeds from the game will help support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (MHC-CNI) and the building of the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House in downtown Chicago. A total of 48 future NCAA, NBA and WNBA superstars will rely on years of practice and natural talent as they tip off the 34th annual Boy’s Game and 10th annual Girl’s Game on March 30.

In addition to Cadet Hairston, four other Hargrave Post-Graduate Cadets were nominated for the 2011 team. They include:

C.J. Barksdale of Danville, Virginia; Mrs. Jeanetta Cardwell, mother.
Robert Brown of Clermont, Florida; Robert and Sybil Brown, parents.
Marquis Rankin of Charlotte, North Carolina; Lamar and Tonia Rankin, parents.
Dezmine Wells of White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia; Leslie Samuels, mother.

All five players play for Hargrave in Coach Kevin Keatts’ Post-Graduate basketball program.

Hargrave has a great history with the McDonald’s All American program. Since 1998, four Hargrave Post-Graduate basketball players, including Cadet Hairston, have been selected for the game. The other three players include: Vernon Macklin (2006); James White (2001); and Korleone Young (1998).
