Hargrave Postgraduate Basketball is legendary. National Championships in 2004, 2008, and 2016. A 203-15 record over an 8-year stretch. Over 67 PG basketball players continuing at Division I in just 5 years. Twenty-nine NBA alumni including Josh Howard, David West, and Donte Grantham.
This legacy reveals what makes Hargrave basketball the gold standard of prep basketball and how we develop players capable of elite competition.
The program consistently produces Division I players and NBA talent through elite coaching with professional and college experience, high-level daily competition raising everyone’s game, comprehensive strength and conditioning programs, mental toughness training preparing for adversity, character development creating leaders, and academic support ensuring college eligibility.
Historic Walter Davis Gym features the Wall of Fame displaying all 29 NBA alumni. Current players see this wall daily—a visual reminder of what is possible through dedication, hard work, and Hargrave preparation.
Facilities include the Olympic-sized pool at Onishi-Davenport Aquatic Center, Grant Multipurpose Gym, weight room, and comprehensive training facilities. The coaching staff includes former college and professional players who understand elite basketball.
College basketball coaches nationally recognize Hargrave basketball preparation. They recruit Hargrave players knowing they are getting young men ready to compete at the highest levels with proven work ethic, basketball IQ, character, and physical preparation.
The PG year provides crucial additional physical, mental, and skill development. Many would not have reached Division I or NBA without that year of intense preparation in a competitive environment.
Players develop basketball skills through individual instruction, team concepts through competitive practices, physical strength through conditioning programs, mental toughness through challenges, leadership through team roles, and character through Four Pillars integration.
Beyond basketball skills, Hargrave develops the whole person. Players learn time management balancing academics and athletics, responsibility through leadership roles, integrity through Honor Code, teamwork through brotherhood, and resilience through adversity.
Academic support ensures players maintain college eligibility through mandatory study halls, How to Study program, individual instruction time, tutoring when needed, and college counseling for recruiting.
The brotherhood formed through basketball extends beyond graduation. Players maintain lifelong connections, support each other’s careers, mentor current players, and celebrate each other’s successes.
