The Varsity Lacrosse team traveled to Farmville to square off against VISAA opponent Fuqua School to open the regular season with a 16-5 win. After a slow start out of the gates and only a 1-0 lead for much of the first quarter the Tigers regrouped and found their stride increasing the advantage to 8-1 at the half which would be extended into the second half with a final score of 16-5 Hargrave’s offense was lead by sophomore Cadet Connor Rogers who had 12 point game with 7 goals and 4 assist. Other notable offensive performances were had by freshmen attacker Cadet Austin Bennett with 3 goals and 2 assist as well as Cadet Antonio Paluo-Garcia as he recorded 4 points with 1 goal and 3 assist. Cadet Mitchell Glover scored his very first lacrosse goal ever on his third shot of the game only after hitting the post twice before.
Strong Defensive performances were had across the board as well as junior defender Cadet Luke Dewitt anchored the efforts and recorded 3 ground balls and 1 intercepted pass. Cadets Caleb Rogers and Mack Duncanson also had strong games as each made several key stops in foiling the FUQUA offensive attack. Cadet Harrison Slay started the game in goal for the tigers recording 8 saves on 10 shots. Goalies Peyton Woodward and Hunter Howerton both saw action late in the game.
