The varsity baseball team came out red hot and took advantage of a few Fuqua mistakes early to win its first game of the season by a final of 20-1.
Hargrave got the sticks rolling in the top of the first inning behind RBI singles by Cadets Logan Barker, Riggs Jordan, Mark Loving and Mattox Lawson. Hargrave scored eight runs in its half of the first to take the early commanding lead. Hargrave was back on the sticks again in the third inning scoring eleven runs on five big hits and four walks. The game was stopped early in the fifth inning for mercy rule.
Cadet Michael Laforgia was 3-3 with 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored, Jordan was 3-3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored, Cadet Brad Markiewicz was 3-3 with 1 RBI, 3 runs scored and Lawson was 2-3 with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. Cadet Shelby Wheeler got the win on the mound throwing 2 innings, striking out 2 batters and allowing 2 hits. Cadet Landis Gee pitched 2 innings allowing 1 hit, and striking out 1.
