Former Hargrave Military Academy Postgraduate (PG) Basketball player Mike Scott ’07 was named to the Academy’s Hall of Fame on Friday, October 10, 2014. Scott currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks, a National Basketball Association (NBA) team.

Scott’s recognition was the headline event that kicked of the start of the 2014-2015 Hargrave PG Basketball season at the Academy’s Meet the Tigers event. Hargrave’s entire Corps of Cadets participated in the event that was both entertaining and rewarding.

As the honored guest, Scott was recognized as the program’s newest Hall of Fame member and unveiled a large sign naming him an official Hargrave PG Basketball Hall of Fame member. The Hall of Fame is featured in the Academy’s Davis Gymnasium.

Scott was born in Chesapeake, Virginia. He attended Deep Creek High School prior to attending Hargrave Military Academy. At Hargrave, Scott was a teammate of current Golden State Warrior guard Jordan Crawford and helped lead the Hargrave team to the National Prep Final Four. Scott averaged 23 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks for the Hargrave PG Basketball team in the 2006-2007 season.

After completing his Hargrave studies, Scott accepted a full scholarship to the University of Virginia (UVA) where he was a five year player. He earned First Team All ACC honors as a senior, when he averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and one assist for the season. He hit double figures in 29 of 32 games and led the team in scoring and rebounding. Scott finished third in UVA Basketball history in rebounds and double doubles, while ranking 16th in points. Most importantly, Scott completed his degree in Anthropology.

Scott (#32) was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft and signed to a contract on September 6, 2012. He concluded his rookie campaign averaging 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 9.4 minutes in 40 games. During the 2013-2014 season, Scott led the Hawks in scoring nine times, rebounding twice and assists once. He was a team leader in games played, while ranking fourth in FGM and sixth in points per game. He scored in double-figures in 13 consecutive games.

In the 2013-2014 NBA Playoffs, Scott scored in double figures four times. During the Hawks’ victory over the Indiana Pacers April 28, 2014, he played for 29 minutes and contributed 17 points and three assists to the effort.

Scott joins other Hargrave PG Basketball Hall of Fame members such as Joe Alexander (West Virginia University, Milwaukee Bucks); Josh Howard (Wake Forest University, Dallas Mavericks); David West (Xavier University, New Orleans Hornets); former PG Basketball Coach Kevin Keatts; and Mike Gallagher (The Citadel).

Hargrave’s PG Basketball program has produced over 100 division one players since the 2003-2004 season. Since that season, Hargrave has won two national championships (2008, 2004) and claimed two national runner up titles (2012, 2009). The program finished national top four six times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007). In the summer of 2012, Hargrave PG Basketball was named program of the decade by RealGM Basketball.
