Scrappy Carlisle team defeats Tigers

Dr. Jim Tung

A scrappy Carlisle team came out strong to take on the Tigers. Their blitz surprised the singles ladder before the Tigers began to make adjustments and wake up.

At #2 Singles and making his 2014 debut on the singles side, Cadet Daniel Kim was down 2-3 before putting on the gas and taking control of his game to post a 10-3 win. On the next court at #1 Singles, Cadet Rankin Horsley found himself unexpectedly down 0-5 before getting ahold of the reins to climb back into the match 3-6. The Chiefs #1 was able make his own adjustments and while the tenor of the match of no longer one-sided, he was able to close out strong with the score cards flipping over to 5-10. On the other end of the north courts, Cadet Turner Wall was on the wrong end of a scrambling match, 1-6. But he was able to settle into a groove to climb back to 9-10. With a tie-breaker looming, Carlisle’s #3 was able to finally hold after 5 deuce and match points.

On the doubles side, the Tigers continue to show the strength of team work. All the matches were closely contested, with final scores across the board of either 6-8 or 8-6. Cadets Turner and Raines Wall continue on their tear at #2, remaining undefeated at 3-0. At #3, Cadets Walter Kasica and Sam Hazan moved to a 2-0 record.

Cadets Zachary Gjenasaj and Alex Vogel gained court experience in exhibition singles matches. The Varsity Tennis squad will travel to LCA to even up an earlier loss to the Bulldogs. The next home match will be against the Miller School on Monday, April 16.
