Strong Second Half Vaults Tigers to Victory

In VIC conference action in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Tigers of Hargrave Military Academy defeated Eastern Mennonite, 80-49. The Tigers move to 16-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Eastern Mennonite shot the ball extremely well in the early going and the Tigers had to shake some of their rust off, having not played a game since Tuesday. The Tigers, who beat Eastern Mennonite at home just a week earlier, were struggling to force turnovers and crash the glass in the first quarter, which resulted in Hargrave clinging to a 13-9 lead. Eastern Mennonite’s hot shooting continued in the second quarter, but as Hargrave’s defense intensified, their lead grew to 34-19 heading into the break.

An inspired third quarter by Tre King, EJ Williams, and Malik Morgan proved to be the difference as the Tigers put up 35 points and took a 69-31 lead into the fourth quarter where they held on for the 80-49 victory.

Notable Performances Include:
Tre King ’18–21 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals
David Garey ’17–13 points, 5 steals
Malik Morgan ’17–10 points, 8 rebounds
EJ Williams ’18–9 points, 10 rebounds

Hargrave returns to the court on Monday, February 6th against VIC Conference opponent, Roanoke Catholic, as part of the Hargrave-Chatham Hall Fight Against Cancer Challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 PM.
