Swim Meet Summary (1/17/23)

The Hargrave Tigers competed on Tuesday 1/17 in a unique format with the team entering into limited events as part of a reset and an opportunity to have some fun heading into the final stretch of the season! Check out this recap below from Head Coach, Amanda Weishaar!

As you were aware this swim meet was going to be different. I had only entered the boys in 2 events – 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle. That meant that we were not going to win, but we were going to set some new personal bests, have some fun, and be ready to set some goals for the remainder of the season!

  • 50 Freestyle:
    • Heat 1:
      • Stephen Yang, ’24 (Oakridge, NC) came in 1st for his heat with a :28.51
      • Jerry Li, ’26 (Sammamish, WA) came in 3rd for his heat; 2nd for HMA; and this was his first swim meet!
      • Charles Gaddy, ’26 (Manteo, NC) came in 4th for his heat; and this was also his first swim meet!
      • Jake Bradley, 27 (Florham Park, NJ) came in 5th for his heat; and he was our final new swimmer of the evening!
      • Andrew Francis, ’23 (Stephenson, VA) dropped 0.29 seconds!
    • Heat 2:
      • Isaiah Walton, ’26 (Silver Spring, MD) came in 1st for his heat with a :30.57
      • Dax Alexander, ’25 (Kalispell, MT) came in 2nd for his heat and dropped 0.10 seconds!
      • Zachary Lu, ’27 (Redmond, WA) came in 4th for his heat; 3rd for HMA
      • Zain Satti, ’25 (Danville, VA) rounded off the heat but was fighting some sickness so he could not drop any time.
    • Heat 3:
      • John Classen, ’25 (McLean, VA) is not called “Legs” for nothing! He came blazing off the blocks and came in 1st for his heat with a :27.84 dropping an impressive 6.08 seconds! All those long distance swims have paid off!!
      • Nick Meyers, ’23 (Alexandria, VA) continued to perform well and dropped another 1.35 seconds and finished 2nd for his heat!
      • Elisha Dixon, ’27 (Ellicott City, MD) came in 4th for his heat and just missed out on his personal best
      • Aidan White, ’23 (Danville, VA) had a heavy pool entry which cost him some time but he was only 0.02 seconds from breaking his record!
    • Heat 4:
      • Kelsten Hudson, ’25 (Danville, VA) came in 2nd for his heat and dropped 0.01 seconds with a time of :28.83
      • Nathaniel Duff, 23 (Vernon Hill, VA) came in 3rd for his heat but was unfortunately not able to drop any time
      • Roger Adams, ’23 (Chatham, VA) came in 4th for his heat and dropped 0.55 seconds!
      • Charles Rausch, ’25 (Raleigh, NC) came in 5th for his heat and was just outside his personal best
      • Isaac Wadsworth, ’26 (San Antonio, FL) dropped another 1.16 seconds!
      • Archie Hooper, ’25 (Wilmington, NC) dropped another 0.09 seconds!
    • Heat 5:
      • Sebastian Medina, ’23 (Danville, VA) came in 1st overall; dropped 1.53 seconds; finished in :23.88; and qualified for the 50 Freestyle at States!
      • Aiden Dykstra, ’23 (Ten Sleep, WY) finished 4th overall but unfortunately could not drop any time. But he did score us 5 points!
      • John Wall, ’24 (Mount Juliet, TN) finished 5th overall and scored the team 4 points!
      • Junior Verwest, ’26 (Fort Myers, FL) finished 6th overall
      • Bryce Adkins, ’23 (Gretna, VA) finished 7th overall
  • 100 Freestyle:
    • Heat 1:
      • Charles Rausch, ’25 (Raleigh, NC) swam his first individual 100 Freestyle and came in 1st for his heat with a time of 1:12.03
      • Elijah Willette, 25 (Chatham, VA) also swam his first individual 100 Freestyle and he came in 2nd for his heat
      • Elisha Dixon, ’27 (Ellicott City, MD)  also swam his first individual 100 Freestyle and he came in 3rd for his heat
      • Aidan White, ’23 (Danville, VA) also swam his first individual 100 Freestyle and he came in 5th for his heat
      • Zain Satti, ’25 (Danville, VA) struggled to increase speed but the courage he showed after being out of the pool for a period of time was electrifying as the entire crowd was cheering him to the finishing line!
    • Heat 2:
      • Isaac Wadsworth, ’26 (San Antonio, FL) came in 1st for his heat and dropped 1.81 seconds with a time of 1:15.41
      • Archie Hooper, ’25 (Wilmington, NC) came in 2nd for his heat and dropped a large 3.02 seconds!
      • Dax Alexander, ’25 (Kalispell, MT) looked a little gassed on this event but he stayed true and finished 4th for his heat!
      • Zachary Lu, ’27 (Redmond, WA) dropped 5.86 seconds! Wow!!
    • Heat 3:
      • Junior Verwest, ’26 (Fort Myers, FL) really got into a great rhythm and came in 1st for his heat and dropped 4.16 seconds with a finish time of 1:01.55! He is now the 5th fastest on the team!
      • Isaiah Walton, ’26 (Silver Spring, MD) had the biggest smile and kept saying “I can’t believe it!” after dropping 1.47 seconds! He came in 2nd for his heat!
      • Patrick Souza, ’25 (Clarksville, VA) was swimming his only event this evening and dropped a huge 3.95 seconds! He came in 3rd for his heat!
      • Kelsten Hudson, ’25 (Danville, VA) dropped a further 3.88 seconds and came in 4th for his heat!
      • John Classen, ’25 (McLean, VA) could not unfortunately replicate his earlier speed but still finished 5th for this heat
      • Nathaniel Duff, 23 (Vernon Hill, VA) came in 6th for his heat
      • Roger Adams, ’23 (Chatham, VA) came in 8th for his heat
    • Heat 4:
      • Sebastian Medina, ’23 (Danville, VA) came in 1st overall; dropped 0.70. seconds; finished in :52.97; and qualified for the 100 Freestyle at States! He is on his way to meeting his personal goal of qualifying for States in every 100 yard event.
      • John Wall, ’24 (Mount Juliet, TN) finished 4th overall and scored the team 5 points!
      • Aiden Dykstra, ’23 (Ten Sleep, WY) finished 5th overall with a new personal best of 1:01.02 thereby dropping 3.35 seconds and scoring 4 points!
      • Bryce Adkins, ’23 (Gretna, VA) finished 6th overall 
      • Stephen Yang, ’24 (Oakridge, NC) finished 7th overall
  • 1 meter diving:
    • After the swimming it was time to dive. We had 3 divers competing:
      • Patrick Souza, ’25 (Clarksville, VA) came in 1st with a score of 148.75 for 6 dives which was just under his personal best
      • Elijah Willette, ’25 (Chatham, VA) had a successful 6 dive meet and made every dive count. He finished 2nd with a score of 124.25
      • Jarius Steely, ’23 (Fort Lauderdale, FL) was DQ’d after his attempt of the Forward Double Somersault Tuck was unsuccessful

So overall the boys had a great time and there was much improvement and competitiveness by many! Now we have a base in which to set some goals for the final few weeks and to finish the season as best we can. In just a few short weeks our season ends!
