This has been an incredible season, and I am so happy that our boys continued to improve throughout the months! They put in hard work in practice and brought smiles to their coaches’ faces on a daily bases. While we did fall short of that coveted number one spot, our boys put up some seasonal and personal bests that helped us tie for third in the VIC!!

Some of the quick highlights from this championship meet were we scored out of 8th place, and the top 3 were awarded medals in between the races:
– In the 100 Free our top individual junior Caleb Rogers broke 1:00 and took 5th place
– Freshman Ashton Burton put those feet to work and kicked his way to a 5 second drop in the 200 Free to take 7th
– The triumvirate of 8th grader Peter Ferrente, sophomore Saul Fragoso, and junior Chad Demarest swam through a nasty cold they have been battling all week to help put up solid times and show their teammates their dedication through to the end!
– Sophomore Kevin White put up impressive PR’s in both his individual events, the 200 IM & the 100 Fly, and took his place on the podium as the bronze medal winner in both events!!
– The 500 Free can be a grueling race to watch and compete in, but both freshman Ashton Burton and junior Liam Rafizadeh stepped it up, cut off huge chunks of time, and scored in this event!!
– Our 200 Freestyle relay of junior Brandon Bordelon, senior Adriano DeAngelis, junior Caleb Rogers, and sophomore Kevin white not only took the third place spot but ALSO finally clinched that state cut time!! Congrats to them, can’t wait to see them swim next week in Christiansburg!
– We rounded out the evening with a nice 6th place finish in the 100 back by our freshman Bjorn Brinkley, and, for his third 4th place of the night, for Brandon Bordelon in the 100 Breast, who was followed very closely by teammate Caleb Rogers in 6th in the breast!
-Lastly, our 400 frees finished with heart and our relay took 4th!
Almost EVERY individual swim of the night dropped time (that is 18 young men’s one or more individual events of the night shaving off time!)
Katie Markunas was named the VIC Swim Coach of the Year! This is a great accomplishment for such a young coach and we are proud to have her at HMA!
